Dear Midwives
Midwives must gain knowledge and skills regarding maternal, newborn, family and community health in the world, in their own countries and regions.
Midwives should provide the best care, regardless of language, religion, color and race, in improving and protecting maternal, newborn, family and community health, treatment and rehabilitation, and increase the quality of service by aiming for lifelong learning.
Midwifery should be aware that life is the fundamental value, support all kinds of initiatives for the benefit of humanity, and strive to make the individual take responsibility for their health.
By adding new up-to-date midwifery information to the well-established education of midwifery, midwives should catch up with continuous change and innovation in their education. In order for midwives to achieve change, cooperation should be made with ministries such as Health, Justice, Family and Social Services, and public institutions and organizations such as various Maternal and Child Health Centers and Universities. Midwives should be the voice of women and families, for this purpose politically appropriate language should be used and social media should be used wisely.
In the midwifery profession, evidence should be used and active roles should be taken in scientific studies. Midwives must support colleagues, team members and individuals within their professional roles. To protect the dignity of the midwifery profession, the profession must adhere to legal and ethical principles.
It is essential for midwives to work with a team approach in order to express themselves effectively and practice their profession. For this reason, all midwives must become members of Midwifery Professional Organizations and Institutions in order to share their efforts, qualifications, knowledge and skills.
I wish you success in your career.
Your Department Head, Dr. Lecturer Member Ayfer KÖRKOCA
